The 17J 1888 model American Grade may be the scarcest of the breed. This is the only example I have seen. It appears to be in its original gold case. The dial is a standard railroad grade 1888 dial rather than the customary old English style American Grade dial. The movement has a gold center wheel, but not a gold train. The serial number puts it in a run of Am'n Grade. One might think it was a half breed, but the numbers match and in any case, the "missing" cap jewel to make it 19 jewels would be on the plate that carries the "American Watch Co." engraving. |
