Front, Front Mark, Dial Back, Case Mark, Cuvette, Cuvette Mark, Movement, Movement 2nd View This is a KW16 American Watch Co. grade movement in nickel finish from the last run of American grade. It is nearly identical in appearance to the 1868 model stem wind product. It can be distinguished by the small crescent beside the winding arbor boss. This watch, in common with all the pure Waltham production, has 19 jewels with the center jeweled and the escape wheel capped. There are no cap jewels on the pallet arbor. This watch is in its original 18K American Watch Co. case that has been converted to stem winding with the addition of Abbot's stem winding mechanism. The original holes in the cuvette have been expertly filled in. It is likely the conversion was done in the 1870's when the watch was relatively new. This watch was obtained along with the Am'n grade 1868 model that sacrificed its case for the American grade 1868 model in the collection.. The dial is the rather scarce and very beautiful 3 line version of the American Watch Co. Waltham Mass script dial. The serial number is 501,530. It is from a run that is mistakenly listed as 1870 model in the 1954 Waltham serial number list. Actually the run from 501,521 to 501,600 is all nickel KW16 American Grade movements. The previous run at 501,501 to 501,520 is 1868 model American Grade. |
