This is a pair of 1883 model 15 jewel adjusted movements in grade 35 open face and hunting case. I think these watches are the finest production of the 83 model. They have finish equal to the Crescent Street grade and lovely flush gold settings. The later 17 jewel examples are not really up to the finish standards of the earlier 15 jewel watches. Note that the open face example is pendant set while the hunting case example is lever set. This was true of all but a very small number of 1883 model watches. The nickel gilt Appleton Tracy grade is one of the exceptions.

The later runs of Grade 35 are listed in the records as equivalent to Appleton Tracy Grade. The first 3 runs are listed as equivalent to American Watch Co. Grade. This comment seems a bit suspicious and may have been the result of a debate among the transcribers.
