This watch is not in my collection but is pictured here because it represents the peak, in my opinion, of the Waltham Employee Watch. It lacks a dial and a case, but the movement is beautiful. It is fitted with a very simple Earnshaw style detent escapement and was made by C. J. Babcock from a KW16 (1860 model) ebauche. The serial number may be related to the original serial number of the unmodified movement but some digits are clearly missing. Since the plates have been engraved with the new information, there is no way for certain to determine the other serial number. The most likely candidate would be 210,113, which is an 1860 model Appleton Tracy grade movement. That would have been the least expensive alternative for the employee to choose. It also matches all but the first digit of the serial number shown.
