It is from a run of 320 watches finished between December 1877 and August 1880. It would be easy to assume that once a particular grade was produced in nickel, the gilt finished was reserved for lower grades. Not only is that not the case, the gilt example seems equal in quality to its nickel brothers. The blue finish on the steel work is especially nice although the photographs do not do it justice. This watch and its case were purchased in the poor condition seen here and the damage is too extensive to justify restoration of the case or the movement. They seem to have suffered an accident. However, they must have been truly outstanding when new.
