The Maximus A 1912 Model is a very thin 14 size watch that was cased in special Colonial A cases. The Maximus A was used by the New York jeweler Matalene to produce some very elegant thin watches with Matalene's patented setting feature. One of those is shown here also. According to Ehrhardt's Encyclopedia Vol. 1, there were 2,000 Model 1918 10 size 23J Maximus A  and 200 21J. This combined with 2,350 in 14 size gives the total production of the Maximus A of 4,550 watches.

The rayed dial watch is listed in the Waltham list as size 14, model Colonial A, Grade Maximus. This differs from the other two earlier examples that are listed as size Colonial, Model A, Grade Maximus. The change in description shows up about the same time as the Model 1918 10 size shows up, so it is likely that the factory did not anticipate needing to state the size for these special case watches originally and then changed the description when 2 sizes became available.
