Claude Henry McIntyre

My father C. H. McIntyre was born in 1908 in Detroit Michigan. He grew up in the fast pace of the 20's and eventually went on the road looking for warmer climes. To quote Dad, during the depression, it seemed better to be warm and hungry than cold and hungry.

In the 40's he trained in mechanical drawing and became an accomplished draftsman. He eventually found himself in Kansas City working for the Standard Steel Corporation with opportunities to do a substantial amount of design work on the lines of fuel tankers and other transport systems.

The drawing is a blueprint of his patented short turn running gear. The object of the invention was to use a pantograph mechanism to cock the rear wheels of the trailer in the opposite direction of the front wheels of the tractor. This made all four wheels track on the turning circle.

Woodford and Helen McIntyre 1907Dad's parents were W.W. (Woodford) McIntyre and Helen Mull McIntyre.

W.W. worked in the early automobile industry and traveled to France during WWI to help with the new air operations. This note appears on the back of the picture at the left.

The stock certificates are from the Crowe and Traveler automobile companies. W. W. was the Chief Engineer for both companies but they never succeeded in marketing an automobile.

The Traveler chassis that is pictured is as close as they came.
