Dent's Staple Balance was one of the more successful attempts to correct for middle temperature error. Dent calculated that a bimetallic cross arm with two additional bimetallic fixtures acting in opposition to the movement of the cross arm could be arranged to eliminate the middle temperature error.

This example was purchased in a mongrel box. The current box was custom made by Ships Clock Cabinetry of Macassor Ebony. The brass edges and brass inlay lines are a nice contrast to the flamboyant wood grain.

There is a large collection of middle temperature error correcting balances that includes the two types shown on this site. That collection was shown at the NAWCC National Meeting in 2003.
