This clock is an early example ca. 1885 of the then new Torsion Pendulum clock. There were earlier designs going all the way back to Eli Terry, but this is the design that passed down as the basis of all modern torsion clocks.

This clock is known as the "3 Patent" clock because the dial shows the German, English and American patents.
