Sperry & Shaw are similar to many makers of fancy shelf clocks in that they were primarily a retailer. They may have made some clock cases in their own shop. The movement in this example appears to have been made by Seth Thomas. It is essentially identical to the one in my Seth Thomas Plymouth Hollow clock.

The clock is interesting in that it has four free standing columns. This takes up a lot of the width, so the weights are formed as thin wafers to run in the narrow opening inside the case.

I purchased this clock at the NAWCC National Convention auction in St. Louis, Missouri in 1975(?). It was sold by Bill Mather, who had a large antique clock business in Vermont.  I was very grateful for the relatively low price he let it go for.

One of the weights is original while the second has been replaced with a lead substitute. The dial was in good condition when I got this clock, but the paint has been flaking from the bottom portion for years and I have not been able to decide how to best stabilize it.
