The 17 jewel series 9 bridge model seems to be the scarcest of the bridge models or perhaps it is just unrecognized. This example has the white metal train that is found on other late Keystone Howard watches. The restrained damascening and white train gives the watch a very stark appearance. This movement and case were purchased separately. The case actually had a Waltham Howard movement in it when purchased. It is very unlikely that a Waltham Howard would have been cased in a Howard marked swing out case.

This watch is often called a Series 2 unmarked example, but the E. Howard Watch Co. catalog from 1924 clearly identifies the movement as a series 9 (page 13). Thus the series 9 appears both as a 3/4 plate 17J model and as a 17J bridge model. In the case of the bridge model series 9 there are no adjustment markings on the plates at all although the catalog says that it is:

Adjusted to three positions, temperature and isochronism; cased and timed in its own case before leaving the Howard factory.

The earlier 3/4 plate series 9 is simply marked "Adjusted" but is also adjusted to 3 positions, isochronism and temperature.
