This watch was made for the E. Howard Watch Co. by Waltham around 1903. The 17 jewel examples are much less common than the 19 jewel examples. When it was ordered, this watch was presumably intended as a replacement for the Howard Series XII Split Plate.

It is cased in a Waltham display case that really was intended as a salesman's case. Normally the case is housed in a box with a trapeze mechanism that allows either side to be displayed in the box.

The serial number is H866709. The corresponding Waltham serial number is 12,066,709 which is in the run 12,066,501 to 12,066,800 recorded as 17 jewel "Special" in HC and OF.
