Front, Dial, Back, Case mark, Inner case front, Inner case back, Inner case mark, Movement, Angle view of movement, Watch paper, Back of watch paper Ephraim Clark was a well known Philadelphia clockmaker and watchmaker. This piece is an English import that was ordered from the London maker with Clark's name on the movement. The style of the watch dates it to the mid to late 18th century. This is confirmed by a hallmark for 1794. The makers mark on the case is script "TC" incuse for Thomas Carpenter, which he used from 1792. There is an odd diamond shaped mark that is part of the hallmark cluster. The watch carries the serial number 534 both on the movement and the case. This is an unusually low number for a contract watch and it may have been ordered with a low number to make it appear to have been made locally. It is also possible that it was ordered "in the gray" and finished by Clark or in Clark's shop. The dial of the watch is unsigned and has a small amount of damage. The hour hand is original and the minute hand was made to attempt to match the hour hand with fair results.
