Front, Back, Inner Front, Inner Back, Dial, Dust Cover, Paper, Hallmark, Movement, Edge View 1, Edge View 2, Edge View 3 Van Wyck was an old New Amsterdam family well established in New York. Stephen Van Wyck contributed some level of content to this watch, which is an unusual thin design and slightly larger than the type being produced in Liverpool and London at the time. The case is Hallmarked London 1802. With a 4 digit serial number of 4574, it is unlikely that Van Wyck actually produced that many watches, so the watch is likely to be a contract watch that was ordered with unusual features. Van Wyck was the successor in business in New York to Effingham Embree who left the city for Long Island in 1795.* *Thanks to David Grace for information on the Effingham Embry/Van Wyck business relationship.. |
