The grade 190 and its companion grade 194 are Elgin's top 12 size models. They are virtually identical in finish to the 156 and 162 grades complete with the deep dished, polished winding wheels. They have 23 jewels with a nicely jeweled barrel in the center of the highly polished winding wheel. The gold dome on the balance cock jewel setting is another nice quality touch. They display the characteristic daisies on the balance cock that seems to mark Elgin's top grades. Elgin made relatively few 23 jewel watches and this is the only 23 jewel hunting case pocket watch. This example is in a very beautiful 14K case and sports a gold overlay fancy dial. The serial number 7412488 is from the first run of this grade. There were a total of 4,000 grade 190 watches produced between 1897 and 1911.
