Elgin charged for private label marking whereas most other watch manufacturers would private label watches for an order of some minimum number of watches. There are relatively few Elgin private label watches in any grade or model. This example is believed to be especially scarce since it is a grade 50, model 1, convertible that was a less common grade with 36,000 total production. The watch was marked on both the dial and movement for the Schmedtie Brothers of Washington, D. C. I have no information on them at this time. |
