Barraud made or had made a group of watches with the Omskirk or "Chaff
Cutter" escapement that was a variation on Debaufre's Frictional Rest
Escapement. This escapement is found in carriage clocks and other small clocks
as well as in watch work. It is essentially a verge organization that has one or
more circular pallets that operate in a dead beat fashion without recoil. The
two main forms either have a single crown wheel and two pallets on the balance
very much like a verge, or have two crown wheels and a single pallet. The
Barraud's version has two crown wheels that actually look like rotary knife
blades or "Chaff Cutters."
