This unusual ebauche has been reported on one other Barraud chronometer and also on a chronometer by another maker.  I am not sure either of the other examples are intact with the original detent.

The detent is unusual in that it stands upright at the foot 90 degrees from the normal flat position. The extensive jewelling and exposed design are both unusual as well. Functionally, it is a standard Earnshaw detent chronometer.

The movement is cased in a case that was adapted by John Huber for this movement. A new cuvette was made in addition to the other case work to fit the movement. When John did this job it was shortly after his apprenticeship with Martin Matthews at a point in his career when he intended to specialize in case making. I don't know how much case work Huber actually did, but he currently specializes in chronometer development, restoration and repair.
