Burdess patented this winding and setting mechanism that could be applied to any standard movement with only minor modifications. Most if not all the examples have shown up with Burdess name on the movements and the device was not apparently sold as an attachment.

Prest's keyless work predated the Burdess arrangement for winding and the setting mechanism has been seen on earlier watches in conjunction with Prest's keyless work An example is the Bertaut watch in the European watch group. There are several watches with Prest's keyless work shown in the John R. Arnold group of watches.
