This movement is an example of the Grade E International Watch Co. Jones Model. The Grade E is a 20 jewel movement with a nice cap jewel setting on the escape wheel that is reminiscent of the Adams & Perry 20 jewel watches made about the same time. Like the Grade H watch, this movement is marked New York even though it was made in Switzerland. Unlike the Grade H, it has the name of the company on the movement instead of the cryptic D. H. Craig name. An odd characteristic of the movement is that it has two complete sets of case screws. There are two screws in the pillar plate for conventional Swiss mounting of the movement and there are also two screws in the top plate for casing the movement. The top plate screws actually are threaded into the pillar plate. I thought at first that this was a careless alteration, but the screw positions are well finished and I have seen the same treatment on another IWC movement. All in all it is a very nice movement that needs only a dial and case (likely impossible) to be complete. |
