Cora Sample Turner Jane's mother Cora grew up on the farm near Spring Creek in Texas. The Spring Creek Methodist Church was located on a corner of her Father's farm near the town of Avo. Later when the railroad came through both the church and the town moved to the railroad crossing. The town was renamed Avoca to avoid confusion with the earlier location. All that remains today is the Spring Creek Cemetery. Below are some pictures of Cora from her younger days. The sailor suit picture was taken at age 14. The picture in the boat was a Summer vacation in Temple Texas where she had lived with the aunts who raised her. The grown up picture is from her days teaching in the Oil Boom town of Borger with mud streets and boardwalk sidewalks. She taught school in a tent while the town was being built.
