This nickel Bunn grade hunting case model is interesting because of the awkward compromise on the regulator. When the watch was redesigned from the open face version, the balance was moved much closer to the edge of  the movement and therefore the balance cock was shortened. The shortened balance cock does not have room for the regulator whiplash spring, so it is omitted in this design. Some of these watches are fitted with Chalmer's regulator that eliminates the whiplash problem. Those with the strange regulator are interesting, but not rare.

According to the Illinois records published on CD by Russ Snyder, this watch is a model 5, made in 1895.

The dial is a private label, presumably for a New York jeweler, Ch. Hoenninger. I have not investigated this name.

The watch has been recased in a somewhat worn silver case.
