This watch is an example of the group of Grade 105 look alike watches produced in 1889. All the other known examples are stemwind and lever set. The serial number is 301,627. The other 3 examples of the kind are 301,680, 301,825 and 301,828.

It is especially interesting that the watch was produced as a keywind when one of the major new features Illinois was promoting was the stem winding feature. According to Bill Meggers transcription of the factory records, there were 50 total 100/100S 15 jewel keywind movements made. At the time Bill was writing the Illinois book only one example of the 105 style 100S had been seen. No one had reported seeing an example of the keywind at that time.

The watch has 15 jewels with flush gold jewel settings and a Breguet hair spring. It is currently in the "as found" condition and will look rather better when it has been cleaned.

The case is a bit odd with a screw bezel and hinged double back. It does not show any extra screw marks and may be original. It is a Fahy's Monarch No. 1 case.
