The store in South McAlester was apparently very successful and Fred was very likely an inspector on the Missouri, Kansas, Texas line. There was also substantial oil business in the area around 1900. Fred apparently ordered a number of watches from Hamilton in a wide range of grades since significant numbers survive. I do not know of any records that show his actual purchases, but I think there must be a few hundred at least presuming he ordered them in groups of 10. The earliest of the Hamilton watches shown here has serial number 46503 and is probably from 1895 although the Hamilton records are not clear on this group of 934 runs. The latest production is the grade 926. I recently saw another Swiss example that was a 17 jewel watch similar in appearance to this 21 jewel one. The 17 jewel example had a perfect signed dial but was not available for purchase.
