This is a tobacco jar with an interesting sealable lid. The outside is made rough as a match striking surface. A similar design appears in match holders that are often marked with a local retailer of tobacco. I believe these date from the Florian ware period but were probably produced for a long period extending after Moorcroft's departure from Burslem.
