Very large gold case with 4 joints for front, back, bezel and cuvette. Hallmarked Chester 1899 with an additional Swiss quality mark and the weight (65 dwt) stamped in the case. It is very likely that this case originally housed a center seconds karrussel but the scoundrel who owned it sold the case to a gold smelter. I rescued it from the smelter intending to fit a loose center seconds karrussel movement to it, but the amount of additional case work required made the project impractical.
The case has had all the hardware except the setting pin and joint pins removed and weighs 96 grams (61.73 dwt). Perhaps the crown and/or slide were included in the original weight. Or, it may have had 3 dwt "harvested" over the years by jewelers over polishing the covers.
