Late American Pair Case

This watch is an example of a so called "American pair case" watch. In these watches, there is a standard outer case similar to a swing ring case, but the movement lifts out completely instead of the ring that holds the movement being hinged in the outer case.

These watches are fairly common in th silveroid varieties and even in coin silver in the 1880 to 1900 period with 18 size movements. This example is unusual in that it is fitted to a Waltham 1899 model, 16 size movement. It is the latest example of this case style I have seen. It is also unusual in that it is gold filled.
