Face, Front, Front mark, Back, Back mark, Cuvette, Cuvette mark, Movement The Springfield model was the New York Watch Company's initial entry in the high end watch race. Highlights were very high grade finish with 19 jewels, stem winding and wolf's tooth winding wheels. The winding wheels were especially fragile in the original design and were soon abandoned. The jewelling pattern is the same as that on the high grade Nashua watches and English high grade watches. The center is unjeweled and there are cap jewels on the pallet arbor and the escape wheel arbor. This example was purchased as a pair of "basket case" movements. The better set of plates were used in this restoration and new winding wheels were made. The finished watch was regilded to produce the result seen here. The watch is essentially the same size as an N size E. Howard & Co. watch. The case was taken from a low grade Howard watch. |
