Dial.jpg (334701 bytes) Movement.jpg (352559 bytes)

This Elgin B. W. Raymond movement is a good quality, gilt railroad grade movement but the outstanding feature of the watch is the dial with three portraits and the text indications for the hours.

I am not certain what the text intends to convey, but it appears to read starting at the 1:00 position, "Don Carlos MAC." Perhaps this is meant to convey Don Carlos, Mother And Child or perhaps MAC has some special meaning. Of course it could be that the MAC is part of the name and it should be read Don Carlosmac. I would be interested in hearing other interpretations that viewers may have.

In any case it is a really nice example of the genre.

The serial number is 1787463 and dates the watch to 1884. It is a 15 jewel, grade 70, adjusted.
