The Nashua Watch Co and the Nashua Department at Waltham This presentation includes basic information on the development of the Nashua Watch Company and the people involved in the effort. The Nashua Watch Company was founded when Belding Dart Bingham, with the backing of investors from Nashua, New Hampshire came to Waltham to learn as much as he could of machine made watches and to discover any opportunities that might exist for competing in areas where the new American Watch Company might prove vulnerable. He succeeded in luring Nelson P. Stratton and a number of other top operatives from Waltham to join the venture in Nashua with the intent of producing the ultimate high grade machine made watch that had been proposed to the Waltham management by both Stratton and Dennison and had been rejected by R. E. Robbins as providing too much distraction from the main line of development. Their efforts at Nashua, while short lived, resulted in the design that became basis for all high grade production at Waltham and by descent at Elgin and all other American watch manufacturers. This presentation shows examples from the original Nashua production through the final examples of the development in the beginning of the 20th century.
