Dietrich Gruen 23 J with jeweled wind indicator

This is an excellent example of the Dietrich Gruen. There is very little material recorded on this model watch. It was reportedly the dream of Dietrich Gruen to produce a watch that was superior to any other produced. On his death his sons brought out the Dietrich Gruen in attempt to fulfill that dream.

These watches preceded the Gruen 50th Anniversary "prestige" watch that was developed as part of a comprehensive marketing program.

This watch and the McIntyre watch are the only watches known with a jeweled winding indicator. In the case of the McIntyre watch the winding indicator jewelling is in addition to the jeweled barrel.
