The Grade 438 Extra Thin and Grade 439 Extra Thin Extra are very similar to the Illini grades 538 and 539. They differ in that they are very slightly smaller and do not have the 5 tooth click found on the 13 size examples. The grade 528 is also a 12 size but is similar in appearance to the other Illini 13 size grades and also has the 5 tooth click.

The 439 was produced in 5 runs for a total of 330 examples between 1918 and 1921. The closely related 438 was produced in 8 runs with 1,130 examples during the same period.

This example with serial number 3904929 was made in 1921. The carved center dial and 14K white gold case complement it nicely.
