| Illinois produced a number of very fine watches in this class. The grade 410
may have been the best of these in terms of finish, but the company seemed to
elevate the Illini models above even the grade 410. The Illini was sold as a
complete watch in a variety of special cases and with special dials. With the
exception of the first model produced, with the model name "Illini"
the remaining examples are 13 size instead of 12 size and could only be cased in
the special cases. When the Illinois company was purchased by Hamilton, the
Illini became the Hamilton 400. That was marketed by Hamilton as the Tycoon line
in roughly the same price range as the Masterpiece. |
